Photos of Vaughan Town 20th-25th May

Hey all,
Ive just got a link to some photos Dade took of last weeks Vaughan Town, you can see how much fun we all had!

http://picasaweb.google.com/dadefreeman/VaughanTownGredosProgram33

I was stoked because one of the Spanards, Belinda, who i clicked with really well lent me a dress to wear for the last night at the party. It was so cool to dress up and be a bit girly for a change. She also works for a makeup company and we had some time together before the party just getting dressed and she did all my makeup...i felt pampered!

I have some of my own photos but im currently in an internet place that doesn´t have a USB connection thingy (well done Cassy), so i might just do it later on i think. Had a MAD time last night, just drinking in Madrid and wondering around at all hours with peoples from last week, as well as ´random guy´that we picked up on the metro, who turned out to be an English dude who has been travelling for ages and was incredibly funny and entertaining.

So yeah, just hanging out today with some peoples from last week again and then i´ll be onto the tapas party tonight at 7pm to meet the anglos/english speaking people for next weeks Vaughan Town. Not much else to report, just looking forward to round 3! Hope yáll well =D

Dos down, uno to go...

Well ive basically just arrived back in Madrid from my second week at Gredos doing the Vaughan Town program. Once again i had the most amazing time. It never ceases to amaze me, the people you meet and the bonds that are made.

I´ll get some photos up asap, though i didn´t really even get the camera out this week. I did the final party night, only enough time to gather incremidating evidence as such hehe. Rob and Dade did the Master of Ceremonies again this time, they are an inspiration. They put so much of thier love, time and energy into this program every week to make sure everyone is having a good time. And 99.9% of the time everyone does. Everyone goes away changed in one way or another from this short time together, and so many memories are created, its unbelievable.

Im really really enjoying talking to people and helping the Spanish participants with thier English. I don´t think ive ever really done anything that i enjoy so much. Im even starting to think that id like to teaching of one form or another when i get back to OZ. I could certainly see myself doing this with my life. Learning and sharing knowledge i think is so valuable, and to be in a position to help people where your help is changing lives is incredible to me. Its fantastic to be able to meet people and learn about a countries culture as well as help them master the English language and travel at the same time. I was talking to some people from the program today and we all agreed that sometimes travelling can seem pointless and fulfilling. Though having the opportunity to be involved with Vaughan Town really feels like its time well spent, which benefits everyone in a myriad or ways, some that i don´t think we can even fully understand.

Anyway, i wish i could rattle on more but i actually need to head off because we are all meeting for drinks here in Madrid in about 5 minutes. I might actually update this tomorrow before i head off on my third week of Vaughan Town on Sunday morning, hopefully ill get some time. I hope all is well back home, thinking of you all! oxoxoxoxoxoxox

Got a tan...now its time to head back to Madrid!

Hey all,
Just thought id give a quick update to let everyone know my tracks for the next couple months as it appears at the moment. Im heading back to Madrid in the morning to be there nice and early (and do some much needed washing) to organise myself for Vaughan Town on Sunday. So im off to Vaughan Town for two weeks in a row. Im really excited to be going back and im sure ill have some new and awesome experiences...again! Though i know its emotionally and mentally draining and i hope i can handle two more weeks of it! A couple of people from the last Vaughan Town are going to be there again for the two weeks, so that should be a riot. Although its not going to be the same without my big bro by my side, i think it will certainly be a different experience.
So ill get back to Madrid on 1st June, then i get to get my bum down to the south coast of Portugal as ive lined myself up a job so it seems. I don´t want to have to work again, but looking at the website and speaking to the lady on the phone who runs the place, it seems like a pretty cool place to work. She also said that she has other Aussies and Kiwis working for her because she knows they work well, so ill have some people to talk to and hang out with, which makes it alot more attractive. I have to try not to think of it as work, but just another experience and opportunity to meet new people etc. It is a live in position, so i don´t have to pay for anything except some food i believe, but im not really clear on all that just yet. I doubt ill get any more clear on it and just head down there and hope for the best. I get the impression that its alot like my position at Foxhill, except more laid back, which i really hope for. Its not as much money as Foxhill, but as long as im enjoying myself and money is coming in for a change, ill be a happy girl.

So i have a link to their website, it looks pretty nice http://www.qpahorseriding.com/

Not much more to say i guess. Just that ive been enjoying myself here in Gijon, having the boat to myself. Ive forgotten how nice it is to have your own space to just do whatever you like, leave things laying around, cooking dinner on the gas stove, WATCHING TV!! LOL It almost feels normal...YUK! LOL Ive also been working on my tan laying on the front of the boat, listening to music, reading heaps, swimming at the beach, had the most gorgeous weather yesturday. I absorlutely LOVE the Spanish laid back way of life, they are so cool, just do what they please, i enjoy just watching them sometimes.
Anyway, must be off, got more things to organise. Im sure next time i update ill have heaps of new things to say about next weeks Vaughan Town, can´t wait! Take care everyone! oxoxox

Still in Gijon! *sigh*...But have boat to myself *yey!*

Well, im still in Gijon as Keith had to head back to the UK and sort some stuff out, and im staying here on the boat by myself! lol Saves alot on accommodation and its pretty cool living on a boat alone for a few days, just chillin out!
We arrived here on Sunday and i was wondering why i was still feeling awefully ill on Monday and Tuesday...well turns out diesel had leaked from the engine (because we had to flog it like never before to get into port because of the wind we were `sailing´into), which is under my bed in my cabin and the fumes were intoxicating and making me going slightly spaz. So we got all that cleaned up yesturday and (surprisingly) im feeling ALOT better now! So i haven´t really got anything to do while im here except watch some of Keith´s (mostly poor) dvds, attempt to renew my license that expires in a few days, go for a run along the coast (i went for 2 hours on Monday, was sooo good, absorlutely gorgeous) and eat Spanish food.
Speaking of Spanish food, up north along the coast they have this really cool Spanish tradition with apple cider (about 6% alcohol!) and the way they serve it. Its flat while in the bottle, but they pour a little into the glass from high above so it fuzzes slightly, then you drink that quickly before its flattens out again (traditon is `little and often´). Its really cool watching the pro´s do it (waiters and barmen), as me and Keith had a go at it last night and managed to get more on the table then in our glasses! lol (see photos).
So that was fun, but now im by myself id feel embarressed ordering a bottle to myself and sitting in a restaurant, though i may be tempted to do it anyway because its quite nice!
I probably won´t update my blog before i go as i doubt there will be anything interesting to report. I just hope to don´t do something stupid and break something on the boat or do something so the water and electricity doesn´t work lol I´ll be heading off for Madrid on Saturday morning and Keith will get back to Gijon Saturday night to keep on sailing along the coast with someone else to help him, so i have to make sure everything is fine when he gets back. I almost destroyed the place last night when i was drunkingly trying to make soup on the gas cooker (bad idea...though i didn´t think so at the time). So i must restrain myself i do think.
Well i hope everyones well and everything, watch this space for future updates! ;-D

Half way there...

Well, we have made it to Gijon, about half way from Bilbao to La Coruna (where we are headed). Its been an interesting journey so far, and i can definitely admit that im not really the sea-fairing type! The whole coastline that we are 'sailing' is known as the Bay of Biscay, which is nortious for shite weather and sailing conditions, and its certainly living up to that. Up until yesturday there was not a spot of wind and we plodded along with the engine running for two days because otherwise we would have been going just about nowhere. So yesturday we headed off from Ribadesella expecting to have to do the same, when 20 mins into it i was laying on the front of the deck about to go to sleep when suddenly a huge gail came out of no where and i was almost blown away! So for the next 6 hours we absorlutely battled our way into the port of Gijon in like 60 knott winds (massive) with waves crashing over the boat every which way and me having to navigate the boat in because Keith was steering and couldn't see jack because of all the waves! lol it wasn't funny at the time and i was thankfull we made it in at all. Keith said that it was almost the worst he's been through, especially because the wind was coming straight at us.
Soooo, here we are in Gijon, the weather is still shite, and it actually looks like we are going to be here for a while, and may not even make it to La Coruna by Friday. I need to be there by then to get back to Madrid (10 hour bus trip) by Saturday because im now booked in to do another two weeks of Vaughan Town (Yey!). So we may not even try to get there at all and just stay here. Im not really sure whats going to happen, as long as im back in Madrid by Saturday i don't mind if we continue on or stay here. It seems like a nice enough town. We went out for dinner last night to this really tradition kind of local pub/restaurant and at the most AMAZING local fresh seafood, never had prawns, calamarie or sardines like that ever, and doubt i would again outside of Spain. I was sooo nice, and cheap as well.
So its been an interesting four days. I can say that ive NEVER slept like this in all my life. I can't beleive the effect its all having on me, i swear im sleeping about 15-16 hours a day. When it was calm on last Friday and Saturday, i just positioned myself on the front of the boat to sunbake and just fell asleep basically the whole time, i couldn't stay awake! Also because there was no wind, the boat was exceptionally rolly poley, which means ive basically been feeling ill for the last four days as well. It comes in waves but most of the time i feel light headed and completely lazy, can't be bothered doing anything but read and sleep. Although today, when/if it stops raining, ive resigned myself to get my ass off the boat and go for a nice long stroll, i think theres a gorgeous beach about 10mins walk away.
I think ive blabbered on enough, but i thought there might be a few people who wanted to know everything that is going on (e.g. mum :-). But don't worry, apparently theres pretty much no way the boat can roll over, its apparently a really good yaught (i had to ask!). So at this stage we are just waiting and seeing, but i don't really mind what happens, im kind of enjoying seeing all these amazing little towns on the coast. And i must say that the coastline is INCREDIBLE, totally gorgeous and amazing, i can't capture it with my camera, and often i feel too sick while sailing to bother going under deck to grab my camera, so ive just put up a whole host of random ones from a couple of the ports we've been in, Ribadesella being the most stunning of them all.
OK, im going to shut up now. Hope everyones well, ill give another update when i know more about what im doing next!

Oh damn!..Time to sail the north coast of Spain *sigh* LOL

Well, its my last night in Pamplona with Rob, he´s going back to Madrid and im heading to Bilbao on the north coast of Spain to meet up with Keith and he´s boat to go sailing across the top of Spain to the far west side, and depending on my schedule, down the coast and around Portugal. Sounds pretty sweet hey? I thought so too :-) Though the thought of being stuck on a boat all that time (between 1-2 weeks, not sure yet) is a little bit of a worry, but hopefully well worth it!
So ill be on the boat for a while and im really not sure what its going to be like in regards to internet access, so it could be a while before i can make any updates to my blog or email anyone. After the boat however i will either head straight back to the UK and find myself a job and start to try and get back ALOT of money i have spent here in Spain - OR - i may stay on longer and do some more time with Vaughan Town, depending if i can get in the weeks that i want to. I´d really love to have an excuse to stay in Spain longer, especially doing Vaughan Town because its so much fun and it doesn´t cost any money!
So yeah, as usual i don´t know a whole lot about what im doing but i have a fairly good idea at the moment, mainly to start thinking about finding some work, either in Spain or the UK, at least for 1-2 months, then think about more of Europe.
Thanks to those people who have emailed my thier numbers, i really appreciate it. In a way it has been good because its been an excuse to email everyone, and its soooo good to hear from people and what everyone is up to. Its just a shame that it took loosing my phone though! lol
Well i guess theres nothing more to say, but i hope everyones well and taking care of themselves. I will try to get some photos up of the boat etc as soon as i can, im sure to have to great ones for you all!
Adios (for now)! oxoxoxox

New phone number...again!

Well, i arrived back from San Sebastian to Madrid only to have my phone stolen hours later. It was my rather expensive Sony Ericsson K800i that ive been taking all my photos with, storing songs and data etc etc etc. Anyway, so after about a day of devastation and disbelief, i got myself together and bought a new phone. So yeah, i have the phone but no contacts and only the photos ive loaded onto flickr. What can you do, im pretty cool about it now though, life goes on.
Anyway, so ive headed north again, now in Pamplona with Rob (one of the dudes from Vaughan Town) who looked after me/put up with me while i had a break down in Madrid. For those who don´t know, Pamplona is where they do the ´Ferminas´ or The Running of the Bulls. Its not for a couple of months but its a gorgeous, awesome place just to hang out, so much history. I´ll have some piccies up soon enough.
Anyway, ive got to get going. Anyone reading this please note that my phone number while im travelling is now...

0044777 059 1291

Until i get credit, no one can call me but you can message me no troubles. So everyone PLEASE email me you phone numbers because along with my phone i lost all my contacts etc. Hope to hear from you all soon!! xoxoxoxo

Back in Madrid

Well, im back in Madrid again. As you can probably see from my photos i made my way up to San Sebastian, which a totally amazing and beautiful seaside town. I did enjoy my time there, however, it is in Basque country, which means people tend to speak Basque, which i know zero of compared to my next to zero knowledge of Spanish.
Anyway, it seems that English speaking people in San Sebastian are scarce, even when your staying in an Aussie backpackers lol So it was a totally gorgeous place, but it was pretty lonely and frustrating because i couldnt talk to anyone at all. I also felt like a scraggy backpacker and that everyone was staring at me. All the people there are loaded and walk around town dressed in beautiful clothes while im getting around in clothes that are in need of a good wash lol I especially attracted attention when i was sitting on the amazing beach prominard dunking bread sticks into a jar of jam and woofing it down, you wouldnt believe the stares i was getting!! I just had to laugh at that.
So, to have any hope of maintaining sanity, i spent 6 hours on a bus today to get back to Madrid where some people speak English! I stepped into the backpackers and was talking to a lady, and it sounded strange to be speaking at all, almost forgotten how to talk lol
So where to from here? Your guess is as good as mine. Im meeting up tonight with one of the guys from Vaughan Town and maybe we will end up doing something, otherwise ill get my arse back to England and find some work to make up for what ive spent this last week.
Ive learnt some valuable lessons these last few days though;
1. Dont travel alone in a non English speaking country simply because its too isolating
2. Dont just take off without planning at least a little ahead, you end up spending too much money, and
3. For the rest of Europe im going to get on one of those bus trips that you can get one and off and where accommodation is there for you, most like Busabout or Intreped
Bit of a school week for me it seems. Anyway, nothing more to report, hope alls well with everyone!!! xoxoxoxo :=D

From Madrid to caves in Burgos

Well! I certainly found something to do! lol Thanks to Couchsurfers i came across an awesome guy called Barbo who invited me to stay at his place the last two nights in Burgos, north of Madrid. So not knowing what to expect i left Madrid on Monday night and arrived very late and met up with Barbo who turned out to be endlessly generous and kind, although a little crazy (loco). I say crazy because he loves his adventure sports and i agreed to do anything that he thought would be exciting. So on Tuesday i woke up in Burgos and it was snowing!!! lol It was amazing. But that didn´t stop us heading out of town to a cave where we met some of his friends (who are all expert cavers and mountain climbers), and we got all prepared and heading into a VERY small mouth of a cave for 6hours! It was one of the most challenging and exciting things ive ever done that i´ll never forget. I´ll have some photos up asap, but unfortunately Barbo´s camera was dropped and went for a llllong drop and a swim, so we only have a few photos from in the cave.
So after that exhausting day i stayed at Barbo´s again and today im just looking around Burgos, which is an absorlutely gorgeous town. Tonight i hope to travel to San Sebastian (the north coast of Spain) as i hear its really beautiful. Nothing more to say i guess, other than i better get going so i have enough time to travel tonight and find somewhere to stay! lol
Hope everyones well! xoxoxoxoxoxo
